Barbosa (17-2) is a 27-year-old Brazilian featherweight whose finishing instinct is borderline unmatched at this stage of his career.

His knockout of Damon Wilson on Contender Series last August earned him his UFC contract and set the tone for extraordinary expectations entering the promotion.

While he has shown genuine toughness and heart in his UFC outings, his record tells the story of someone who has been competitive but unable to secure results against improving opposition.
He is a well-rounded fighter with enough weapons to cause problems for most opponents, but coming off a long break against a fighter as hot as Barbosa creates a significant challenge.
Barbosa’s primary approach will be to pressure Buzukja with punching combinations, looking for the opening that has preceded nearly every recent finish.
His pattern of first-round stoppages suggests not just power but excellent timing and the ability to identify and exploit openings rapidly.
Buzukja’s best hope is surviving early, using movement and angles to disrupt Barbosa’s rhythm, and extending the fight beyond the danger zone.
If the fight reaches the championship rounds — or even just the middle rounds — his experience might give him a foothold. The problem is that Barbosa’s opponents rarely survive long enough to test that theory.
The finishing pattern is too consistent and too recent to ignore. Barbosa has been executing first-round stoppages with clockwork regularity, and Buzukja coming off a long layoff against this level of opposition is a challenging assignment.
Look for an early combination that staggers Buzukja, followed by a rapid finish before the halfway point of the first frame.
